Research and Grants Advisory Panel

Composed of radiologic technology educators and research specialists, the Research and Grants Advisory Panel was created to help develop a research agenda, grant application criteria and assessment mechanisms. Currently, the panel assists with new program development, evaluates research proposals and makes recommendations for funding to the Board of Trustees.

Chairman

Robert Adams

Robert Adams, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(T), CMD
Robert is an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology. He received his master’s degree in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina and his doctorate in higher education administration from North Carolina State University. Robert has extensive publication experience, having served on several editorial review boards and published more than 30 articles. Most recently, Robert is the principal investigator of a 5-year $1 million federal grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Vice Chairman

Nina Kowalczyk

Nina K. Kowalczyk, Ph.D., R.T.(R)(QM)(CT), FASRT
Nina is an associate professor in the radiologic sciences and therapy division at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She serves as the vice-chairman of the Radiologic Technology Editorial Review Board and is a past recipient of the Jean I. Widger Distinguished Author Award. Nina also is co-chairman of the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences research committee and executive editor for its newsletter. In addition, she lectures nationally and is an active member of the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Panel Members

Kira Carbonneau

Kira Carbonneau, M.Ed.
Kira is the research coordinator at the ASRT. She completed her master's degree in educational leadership at Grand Canyon University and is currently earning her doctorate in educational psychology from the University of New Mexico. Before joining the ASRT in 2008, Kira worked as an educator at both the elementary and middle school levels. Since joining the ASRT, she has assisted with numerous research projects and provides research support for ASRT staff and external clients.

John Culbertson

John Culbertson, M.A., M.Ed.
John is the director of research at the ASRT. He completed his master's degree in philosophy at the University of Kansas and his master’s degree in educational research and psychology at Texas Tech University. Before joining the ASRT in 2004, John worked in educational research. Since joining the ASRT, he has managed and directed many different types of surveys for the ASRT and provides feedback to ASRT staff on internal research and reports.

Gregory Ferenchak

Gregory Ferenchak, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(QM)
Greg is the dean of health sciences at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He received a master’s degree in adult education at Old Dominion University and earned his doctorate in higher education from Florida International University. Greg previously served as chairman of the two-year radiography curriculum revision committee for the ASRT and as a member of the radiography practice analysis advisory committee for the ARRT. He currently serves on the board for the National Network of Health Career Programs in Two-Year Colleges.

Ronnie Lozano

Ronnie G. Lozano, M.S.R.S., R.T.(T)
Ronnie is the chair and a tenured associate professor for the Radiation Therapy Program at Texas State University-San Marcos. He is a Ph.D. candidate in adult, professional and community education at Texas State University. Prior to his current position, Ronnie served as director of treatment services and quality assurance for the East Texas Cancer Institute and was a clinical education supervisor for the M.D. Anderson Radiation Therapy Program. Ronnie is an active member of the ASRT and currently serves on the Radiation Therapist Editorial Review Board.

Larry Swafford

Larry G. Swafford, Ph.D., R.T.(R)(T)
Larry is a professor and radiation therapy program chair in the division of health sciences at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, Ind. He is an active member of the ASRT and currently serves on the Radiation Therapist Editorial Review Board. Larry has been a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology for many years and currently serves on the radiation therapy task analysis committee for the ARRT. He has written several published articles and was the winner of the ASRT Foundation/Siemens Scholar Award in 2004.

Steven Hardy

Steven J. Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD
Steve is the director of medical dosimetry at the Radiation Medical Group and CyberKnife Centers of San Diego in California. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the California State University, Long Beach radiation therapy program. Steven is an active member of the ASRT, the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists and the American Brachytherapy Society. He has served the ASRT as a medical dosimetry chapter delegate and a member of the radiation therapy curriculum and scholarship review committees.
