Patient Education Campaigns
Philanthropy is an important part of keeping the profession strong and improving patient care. What better way to give back than to become involved in patient education campaigns.
The Image Gently campaign is an initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging to raise awareness about methods to reduce radiation dose during pediatric medical imaging exams.
The Hologic, Inc. campaign featured below encourages women to take better care of themselves. Hologic will donate $1 toward preventive health care for underserved women for every woman who promises to take care of her health. Visit the campaign website for more information and materials you can share with patients.
The Image Gently campaign was launched in 2008 to raise awareness about methods to reduce radiation dose during pediatric medical imaging exams.
The campaign is an initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, a coalition founded by the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the American College of Radiology and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. The Alliance has now grown to more than 40 organizations.
The Image Gently Web site, www.imagegently.org, provides information about pediatric imaging examinations for radiologic technologists, medical physicists, radiologists, pediatricians and parents. For radiologic technologists, the site includes protocols for reducing pediatric radiation dose during computed tomography exams, as well as during interventional radiology exams. In the future, information about digital radiography, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine procedures and other medical imaging exams will be added to the site.
Many of the materials for parents on the Web site have been translated into Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, Spanish, Thai and Turkish. Translations into additional languages are planned.
Thousands of individuals and facilities have taken the pledge to “image gently” when performing pediatric imaging exams. Take the pledge today!
A Promise to Women
The statistics are staggering. Worldwide 400,000 women die every year from breast cancer, 300,000 will die from cervical cancer and one in three women over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture that will devastate her life. You might wonder if there is anything that any one person could do to make an impact and help change these shocking figures.
It might feel overwhelming, but what if we could begin to chip away at those statistics one by one by helping every woman better understand the importance of preventive care for herself? What if we help women find access to care so that disease can be found early and treated sooner so every woman has a fighting chance to beat it? What if, one by one, we spread this message of empowerment to every woman, everywhere?
The Promise to Me project is based on this very idea. With your help, we are asking women around the world to make the promise to make their health their first priority and to pass the message on to all of the women in their life through www.promisetome.com. When they do, Hologic will donate funds* to preventive health care for uninsured women. Together we can begin to chip away at those statistics — one woman at a time.
Help us reach our goal. Please, make the promise. Then pass it on.
